Solicitor General Jose Calida lauded the decision of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in revoking Rappler’s Certificate of Incorporation.
“This decision demonstrates that even influential media outfits cannot skirt the restrictions set forth in the Constitution,” Calida said in a statement.
The Office of the Solicitor General, through Calida in December 2016, asked the SEC to investigate Rappler and Rappler Holdings Corporation for possible violation of the constitutional provision on foreign ownership.
Calida said “Rappler is free to seek redress before our courts.”
“The OSG is ready to defend the sound decision of the SEC in any forum,” he added.
