Flights, ferries disrupted in fog

Flights and ferries were disrupted across Bangladesh this morning due to winter-induced fog.

All domestic and international flights from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were suspended from 6:00am and resumed around four hours later, Bangla daily Prothom  Alo reports.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines left the airport at 10:20am, Public Relations Officer Rezaul Karim of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab) was quoted as saying in the daily.

On the other hand, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Kathalbari were disrupted.

Ferries on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route came to a halt from 2:00am due to blurred visibility, our Munshiganj correspondent reports quoting Shah Newaz Khaled, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).

Six ferries were stranded in mid-Padma river owing to the suspension, the official said. Last reported, the services were yet to resume.

Also on the Paturia-Daulatdia route, the services remained halted until last reported since 3:30am, UNB quoted Mohiuddin Russell, manager (Commercial) of BIWTC at Aricha, as saying.

Four ferries remained stuck in the middle of the river with 100 vehicles and passengers on board while seven others remained anchored at Paturia and five at Daulatdia, UNB adds.
