Poland to finance public TV, radio from state budget from 2019

From 2019, Poland plans to cancel public TV and radio licence fees, with the public media to be published from the state budget, said Krzysztof Czabanski, head of the National Media Council, in an interview for the TV wPolsce.pl .

Czabanski admitted that the plans for financing the public media have not been successful so far, which he considers as his own defeat. Czabanski said that he had been preparing the project for half a year and that it could have been implemented if not cancelled by a political decision. The reason might be the fear from restrictions by the European Commission.

The expected costs would amount to PLN 2.5–3 billion a year.
