Police, bystander pull man out of burning vehicle after three-vehicle collision
A police officer and bystander had to pull a man from a burning vehicle after a three-car collision early Monday, Houston police said.
Around 1 a.m., the driver of a sports car may have run a red light and struck two other vehicles along Tidwell at North Shepherd, said Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson. The sports car caught on fire, he said, and an officer and nearby resident rushed to the vehicle to pull the man out.
Crowson said the driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
"Fortunately the officer was in the area and the citizen was there to help," Crowson said, "and they all worked together to hopefully save that man's life."
Passengers in the two other vehicles were also transported to the hospital, Crowson said, though were not in as serious condition as the first man.
Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision, Crowson said.
