The Chennai box office results for the Pongal week are finally out! From the looks of it, Suriya‘s film – Thaanaa Serndha Koottam has taken on the numero uno position! It has managed to even beat Chiyaan Vikram’s Sketch that took the number 2 spot in the Top 5. The other three spots were taken over by Gulaebhagavali, Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Jai Simha. Interestingly the last two in the top 5 were Telugu films. Suriya’s film based on Akshay Kumar’s special 26 more or less opened to positive reviews on the its release, Except for a few hiccups here and there, the movie won over the audience. A critic from Hindu was all praises for Vignesh Shivn’s style of directing. This movie brought together Vignesh Shivn, Suriya and Keerthy Suresh for the first time. It also marked Suriya and Keerthy’s debut as a pair. Even before the film’s release, the movie had managed to create huge buzz online. Each of its posters went viral. and the music composed by Anirudh Ravichander ruled the charts.
In an interview with Bollywoodlife, Vignesh talked about his experience while shooting with Suriya – “The capability Suriya sir possesses as an actor and the way he believes a director, makes him an absolute delight to work with. The result of that delight and comfort zone in working with him is evident in the teaser’s success,”
“Suriya sir is a person with a genuine social conscience but doesn’t publicise everything he does. So the credibility is more if he delivers a socially responsible dialogue. It would not look fake considering his off-screen personality” He further added.
Let’s see if the film continues to maintain its number 1 spot. As of now, the film holds an advantage owing to the extended Pongal weekend.
