Six persons were killed and 26 others injured when a car crashed on a bus here near Shoolagiri along Hosur-Krishnagiri highway on Sunday.
Five of victims were passengers of the Bengaluru-bound car with a Chennai registration. The car had breached the highway median and crashed across into the passing State transport corporation bus killing the conductor of the bus.
The bus from Hosur was headed to Tirupattur was hit by the car near its engine that the bus toppled to its side from the impact.
According to sources, the bus driver maneuvered the bus to the extent possible that he avoided hitting the Power Grief transformer and missed it by a distance, averting an even major accident. The conductor of the bus Govindaraj (54) of Vellore was killed and 26 passengers were injured. The bus was carrying 57 passengers at the time of the accident.
The identity of the victims in the car was yet to be ascertained by the police.
