13 women burnt dead in 10 days at Rangpur MCH

Four more women, who received burn injuries while keeping themselves warm from cold with fire, have died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (MCH), raising the death toll to 13 in 10 days.

 

Rangpur MCH Burn Unit sources said over 50 burned injured women and children were admitted to the hospital in last 10 days from January 6. Condition of 10 was stated critical.

 

Assistant Director Noor-e Alam confirmed the deaths on Monday.

 

Among them, three women died around 7:30am on Monday while another at 10pm on Sunday.

 

All the victims received burn injuries in different districts of Rangpur division in last 10 days when their clothes caught up in the fire they had made to ward off the cold.

 

The deceased were identified as Shammi Akhtar, 27, Fatema Bagum, 32, and Alo Begum, 22, from Lalmonirhat, Golapi Begum, 30, Afroza Khatun, 40, Moni Begum, 25, Jameron Bewa, 80, Hashu Begum, 65, Ruma Khatun, 65, and Shukmoni, 70, from Rangpur, Rehena Begum, 25, and Marufa Khatun, 30, from Nilphamari, and Akhi Aktar, 45, from Thakurgaon,
