Philippe Coutinho suggestion

05:30: Jurgen Klopp can use the money from Philippe Coutinho’s switch to Barcelona to launch an assault on the title next season for Liverpool, according to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

Liverpool coped well in their first game since Coutinho left, as they beat Manchester City 4-3 yesterday in an enthralling encounter at Anfield.

Shearer was impressed with what he saw from the Reds.

And he thinks Klopp’s men are perhaps just a couple of decent signings away from challenging for the title next season.

“Even without Philippe Coutinho this team is not far away,” Shearer told The Sun.

“A couple more players with the huge £145milion fee they received from Barcelona for Coutinho and I can see them challenging next season — a decent goalkeeper would be a good start.”

Shock Wilfried Zaha swoop

05:00: Former Crystal Palace boss Frank De Boer believes Liverpool would be the perfect club for Wilfried Zaha to continue his development.

Zaha was only available for one of those matches after picking up an injury but has earned rave reviews for his performances under Roy Hodgson.

And De Boer has named Liverpool as a possible destination for Zaha to make his next step.

"I was really a little bit unfortunate that he was injured in the first game," De Boer told Omnisport.

"I missed him in the coming six games. He has a major impact for Crystal Palace because he can make something out of nothing.”

Gary Neville on Emre Can

04:30: Liverpool star Emre Can is good enough to play for Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and will be a big loss to them if he leaves on a free.

Can has entered the final six months of his contract at Liverpool and is understood to be likely to sign a new deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to keep 24-year-old at the club but has been unable to convince him.

And Neville believes losing Can will be a huge loss to Liverpool and feels he has the quality to play for some of Europe’s top clubs.

“I know he’s got a mixed reception on Merseyside in terms of how good he is, I've even had debates with Jamie Carragher,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“I've said I think he’s a player that will play for Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.”

Jamie Redknapp praises Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

04:00: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks like a player transformed at Liverpool as he was too comfortable at Arsenal, according to Jamie Redknapp.

After joining Liverpool from Arsenal last summer for a fee of £40million, Oxlade-Chamberlain took a while to settle.

And Redknapp has been impressed with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s development, claiming the 24-year-old has kicked on more since he left the Gunners.

“At Arsenal, it was all too easy for him. No-one was pushing him and it did not matter whether he was in or out of the team,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“Now he looks fitter, stronger and is thriving in a clearly-defined midfield role. Once again, he looks like a fantastic talent.

“With the Ox and Jack Wilshere in fine form, England’s midfield options seem much rosier for the World Cup in Russia.”
