ALBANY - A fire at 318 Second Street sent one women to Albany Medical Center on Sunday night with burn injuries.

Joseph Gregory, deputy chief of Albany Fire Department, said the woman and her brother were inside the two-story home when the fire was called in at 7:25 p.m.

"They self-evacuated and they both went to Albany Med," Chief Gregory said. "I don't know her condition at this time."

Gregory said when firefighters arrived at the home, there was heavy smoke and fire pouring out of the front. A neighbor in the back, Brandon Lahn-Schofield said flames were shooting out of the back of the house.

"I  literally live right behind the building," Lahn-Schofield said. "I heard my mother screaming her head off in her bedroom. We ran in there and saw flames shooting out of the back of the building."

Gregory said it was a tough fire to fight.

"Considering the weather conditions, firefighters did a great job in knocking it down quickly," he said. "It's tough in the code weather. It's tough advancing hose lines, it's very slippery so it's tough to move around. But that's what we do."

Gregory said the two adjacent buildings, both separated by three-foot wide alleys, were not damaged. One is an abandoned structure, the other was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
