DUBAI: An inebriated man who knifed a man to death during an alcohol sale dispute was on Sunday jailed for 15 years along with two cohorts.
The unemployed Arab man, 27, with the help of a countryman, 27, and an Asian carpenter, 21, killed a Pakistani man behind a hotel in Naif area at around 2:30am on Jan.9.2017.
They punched and kicked him and knifed him several times in the chest and thighs. He bled to death at the scene before police could arrive, according to records at the Naif Police Station.
They fled to Nakheel area. There, the Arab man beat the carpenter and knifed his left thigh in a bid to sodomise him. He was talking to an acquaintance when the carpenter escaped from him.
The Criminal Court sentenced the unemployed man with both cohorts to 15 years behind bars over the murder and additionally jailed him for three years over the sodomy attack attempt.
It ordered that the carpenter be deported upon completion of the jail term. They had denied the charges during court hearing and prosecutors demanded the toughest punishments.
A Pakistani barber narrated that he and the deceased went to buy alcohol at the scene. The deceased and a bootlegger disagreed on the price and fought until the bootlegger ran away.
The deceased spotted the Arab man’s countryman and the carpenter drinking. He asked them to sell him some alcohol. The countryman chased him away. They engaged in a heated argument.
The countryman pushed and beat the deceased. The Arab man arrived with a knife. He knifed the deceased while the countryman and the carpenter kicked and punched him.
The Arab man argued before an Emirati police sergeant that they were consuming alcohol when the deceased arrived. “He was abnormal. He started disturbing us.
“My countryman pushed him. Both started fighting. I intervened and started knifing him. The countryman and carpenter joined beating him,” the Arab man allegedly said.
While in Al Nakheel area the Arab man asked the carpenter for an affair. The carpenter refused. He used the same knife to assault the carpenter.
