Several fire departments were called out to the trailer park Saturday night. Angela Ufheil
Firefighters from four different departments battled a trailer park fire late Saturday night.
Police Chief Derrick Spoerry of the Mitchellville Police Department said Polk County Dispatch put out calls about a manufactured home fire at 105 Arch Ave. NE around 10:07 p.m.
Mitchellville and Bondurant fire departments responded to the scene, along with an officer from the Mitchellville police force, Spoerry said. Gary Robert Walther, 45, of Pleasant Hill went to the scene to photograph the fire and said he saw firefighters from the Delaware Township and Altoona there, too.
When fire crews arrived, they found visible flames coming from the back of the home, where they believe the flames originated.
Fire crews could not use the closest fire hydrant to the home because it was frozen but were able to find another working one nearby.
By 11:30 p.m., fire crews had the flames under control.
All residents escaped without injury, but Spoerry described the trailer as a total loss. Early investigations suggest it might have been an electrical fire.
Spoerry was not sure if the home had working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.
