LEONARD 'LEN' THORNLEY

Leonard 'Len' Thornley North Sewickley Township Leonard Hays Thornley, 86, of North Sewickley Township, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at his residence. He was born November 10, 1931, in New Brighton, son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth (Walsh) Thornley. Known affectionately as "Len" by family and friends, he proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Westinghouse in 1990 with over 30 years of service as a draftsman. Len thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. He had a cabin in Tionesta were he loved to hunt and fish with family and friends. In earlier years he also enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a member of the Retired Men's Club and also the New Brighton United Methodist Church and U.M. Men's group. Family was most important to Len. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patty" (Hughes) Thornley. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on February 5, 2018. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leonard "Lenny" Thornley, Slippery Rock, Pa., and Shawn (Bobbi) Thornley, Ellwood City, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Miranda and Matthew; one great-granddaughter, Kendall; his sister, Lenora Fabyanic, Beaver Falls; and his loveable Schnauzer, "Snickers." Friends will be received on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Military Honors will be presented 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018, in the funeral home by members of the Beaver County Special Unit, followed by his funeral service with the Rev. Scott Berkley officiating. Private interment will follow in God's Garden of Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
