Lady Cats gymnasts put on show in Odessa

The Central High School girls gymnastics team placed first and the boys were second at the Martha Mitchell Invitational meet at the Odessa Permian gym on Friday and Saturday.

On the girls' side, the Lady Cats had a two-day total of 218.75 points, followed by Permian (215.95), El Paso Eastwood (207.45) and El Paso Hanks (182.35). A total of seven teams competed.

Permian won the boys title with a total of 322.90, followed by Central (310.90), Odessa High (301.30), El Paso Hanks (227.20) and Lubbock High (217.50).

Central's Skyler McCowen won the girls' all-around title with a total of 74.85. Teammates Mary Grace Thompson (72.25) and Valyssa Hartman (65.30) were fourth and ninth, respectively.

Permian's Brandon Dominguez took the boys' all-around crown with 108.90 points.

Central's Skylar Canion (96.30) and Sam Franco (85.10) placed seventh and 10th, respectively.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats are scheduled to compete at the Harold Green Invitational at Odessa High this coming Saturday.

Central's first home appearance of the season is Feb. 2-3 at the James R. White Gymnastics Center.
