PULLMAN, Wash. — Cal’s basketball season under rookie coach Wyking Jones grows darker by the game.

Saturday the Bears were routed 78-53 by Washington State, a team that entered winless in Pac-12 play and was 8-8 overall.

Cal (7-11, 1-4) has dropped four consecutive games and there is little hope on the horizon. The Bears next play the Arizona schools, both ranked among the Top 20, and then head to south to play UCLA and USC.

The Bears trailed 37-34 early in the second half, but scored only eight points the last 10 minutes of the game.

Cal was led by two freshmen: Justice Sueing (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Juhwan Harris-Dyson (10 points, 11 rebounds).

Robert Franks had 34 points for WSU and set a school record by making 10 3-pointers. He missed only three.
