CONROE, Texas — Gerald Eugene "Joe" Fry, 76, went to be with the Lord Jan. 9, 2018, due to complications from flu and pneumonia.

He was born in Holmesville in 1941, one of six children, to Goldie Fry. He was a graduate of Waynedale High School and active in football, basketball and track. Joe married Loretta Jean Byler on Sept. 14, 1963. He moved his family from Ohio to Texas in 1982, where he had been a resident of The Woodlands/Conroe area since. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Loretta (Byler) Fry; two children, Patricia Joanne (Todd) Bryant and Timothy Joel "TJ" (Amy) Fry; and four grandchildren, Sara Beth Bryant, Kate Anne Bryant, Megan Cathleen Fry and Andrew Jacob Fry. 

He was a wonderful, loving husband, a dedicated father and grandfather who loved being with his family. He had many friends whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed landscaping his property, vacationing in Florida with friends, and volunteering for Mended Hearts where he would visit with patients who had undergone heart surgery.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Klein Funeral Home — Magnolia, 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, Texas 77355, with the Rev. Rob Renfroe officiating. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m.
