The first day of the Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic concluded Saturday with Mason atop the girls’ standings and St. Xavier atop the boys’ table. Through 11 events, Mason has racked up 296 points while the Bombers have recoded an astounding 536.

St. Ursula (160) is second in the girls’ standings while Seven Hills is second in the boys’ competition with 119 points.

Mariemont’s Cora Dupre opened the meet with a win in the girls’ 50 Freestyle. She claimed the title with a time of 22.91.

St. Ursula’s Ashley Voelkerding claimed the meet’s 200 Freestyle crown with a time 1:52.80. Fairmont’s Margaret Berning won the 500 Freestyle (4:56.67) while Seven Hills’ Lucy Callard was second (4:56.92).

Amy Fuller of Bellefontaine won the 100 Backstroke in 55.97. The top local finisher was Kings’ Brynna Wolfe with a time of 56.63. She placed third.

In the breastroke Mariemont’s Kate Overbey won the 200 with a time of 2:20.72 and Vandalia Butler’s Sydney Baker won the 50 with a time of 32.08. St. Ursula freshman Kristen Hammond was the top local in the 50, placing second with a time of 32.27.

Megan Glass of Ursuline won the lone butterfly final, Saturday. Glass swam a time of 56.04 in the 100.

The 100IM crown went to Abbey Burton of Vandalia Butler with a time of 1:04.33. Walnut Hills freshman Kera Goodall was not far behind with a time of 1:04.85.

In the 400IM Alter sophomore Kate Lair swam a 4:26.42 to win the title. Overbey was second with a time of 4:29.76.

St. Ursula won the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:36.80 while Centerville captured the 400 Medley Relay championship with a time of 3:51.35.

On the boys’ side St. Xavier won eight of Saturday’s 11 events. The Bombers’ dominance was most apparent in the freestyle where they placed three finalists in the 50, 200 and 500 and won the 200 Freestyle Relay. In fact, St. Xavier swept the first three places in the 500 Freestyle.

In the 50 Justin Grender claimed the title with a time of 20.44 while teammate Jean-Pierre Khouzam won the 200 in 1:41.47. Nicholas Perera swam a time of 5:31.46 to win the 500.

Grender also went on to win the 100 Backstroke (48.71) while Khouzam won the 100 Butterfly (49.95).

Mason senior Harrison Wright won the 50 Breaststroke. He finished with a time of 28.20. St. X’s Scott Sobolewski won the 200 Breaststroke (2:01.93).

The 100IM was won by Justin Parrett of Clayton Northmont with a time of 55.28. The top local finisher was Keith Enrico of Lakota East with a second-place time of 55.88.

Waynesville sophomore Owen Conley won the 400IM in 3:55.04. St. X’s Perera was second at 4:00.61.

As mentioned earlier, the Bombers won the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:22.89. They also won the 400 Medley Relay, recording a time of 3:21.46.

The meet's final 11 events will take place on Sunday, The events to be held are the 100 and 1650 Freestyle, the 50 and 200 Backstroke, the 100 Backstroke, the 50 and 200 Breaststroke, the 50 and 200 Fly, the 200IM, the 400 Free Relay, the 200 Medley Relay and the 1 Meter Dive.
