DeKALB – The National Weather Service is predicting snowfall late this afternoon, with 3 to 5 inches of snow expected by Monday morning.

The white stuff has already started falling, and steady periods of light to moderate snow are expected to continue until it tapers off with flurries by noon Monday, according to the weather service.

The weather is expected to bring light snow-covered roads and slow and possibly hazardous travel Monday morning.

"We are kind of glad that the snow is primarily overnight when fewer people are traveling and we have Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow, so kids are out of school and more parents are staying home, so hopefully it'll be less of an impact," said Eric Lenning, meteorologist for the weather service.

For those who do have to make the drive, Lenning said to use extra caution and leave early for extra time to reach their destination.

Temperates will remain cold Monday and Tuesday with highs in the low 20s and lows of 8 degrees Monday and 2 degrees Tuesday. Flurries of snow will continue into Monday night.
