Liverpool transfer backed for Wilfried Zaha: Ex-Palace boss Frank De Boer speaks out

LIVERPOOL would be the ideal club for Wilfried Zaha to join from Crystal Palace.

That is according to former Eagles boss Frank De Boer.

The manager’s brief spell at the helm at Selhurst Park was a torrid one.

De Boer lasted just 10 weeks following his appointment last June.

His Palace side struggled at the beginning of the campaign as they clearly missed Zaha while he was out injured.

The winger has shown his importance and influence under Roy Hodgson since, with a big move being tipped.

Despite flopping at Manchester United, Zaha has been touted as a target for Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea.

But De Boer feels the Palace star would suit Liverpool’s style, although should not look to move on this month.

"I was really a little bit unfortunate that he was injured in the first game," De Boer told Omnisport.

"I missed him in the coming six games. He has a major impact for Crystal Palace because he can make something out of nothing.

"He can play for a much bigger club than Crystal Palace, that's for sure, I'm 100 per cent convinced."

Asked if a January move could benefit Zaha, De Boer said: "Not really right now, because he has to play every game, every week, I think that's important for him right now.

Jurgen Klopp GETTY

Jurgen Klopp needs to replace Philippe Coutinho in the Liverpool team

"Liverpool would be a great club for him, but I'm going to see what he does in the future. I'm very interested in him because I think he has a great potential."

De Boer’s comments will no doubt upset Palace fans further, after the boss failed to impress in his short time in charge.

Zaha is tied down at Palace until 2022 after penning a new contract in the summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking at other targets to replace Philippe Coutinho, with Thomas Lemar and Alexis Sanchez on their radar.
