CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court has awarded life term imprisonment to three persons for abducting a four-year old child boy in the port city in 2009.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Md Motahir Ali passed the order on Sunday (January 14).
The court also fined the convicts Tk. 50,000 each, in default, six months more imprisonment. The court, however, exempted an accused from the charge.
The convicts are- Haradhan Nath, 58, Shefali Begum, 45, and Abdul Aziz, 54. Haradhan and Shefali are still on the run. On the other hand, Abdul Aziz was present in the court during pronouncement of the verdict.
Abdul Aziz is posted as ward boy at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
According to the case statement, Haradhan abducted four-year old child Rakib Chowdhury on January 15 in 2009 in Chittagong city. Later, he sold the boy to Shefali, a floating sweeper. Abdul Aziz was also involved in the crime.
