Kate McElveen, Nick Price marry

Kathryn Watson McElveen and Nicholas Joe Price, both of Sumter, were united in marriage Dec. 2 at Pawleys Island Chapel in Pawleys Island. The Rev. Nicholas Theo Cheek of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter officiated the 4 o’clock ceremony. A reception followed at DeBoedieu Club in Georgetown.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thomas McElveen Jr. of Sumter. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thomas McElveen and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Burke Watson. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2010 from Coker College, and she is employed with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce as partner relations coordinator.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Joe Price of Clio. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Henry Price and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wacon Thurston Rogers. He earned a bachelor’s degree in turf grass management in 2002 from Clemson University, and he is employed with Sunset Country Club in Sumter as golf course superintendent.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father. Violinist Lynn Auman, bagpipe drummer Dennis Gette, bagpiper William Nuttall and pianist Walter S. Wilson Jr. provided music.

Maid of honor was Alex Margaret Richardson of Gastonia, North Carolina. Matron of honor was the bride’s sister-in-law, Bronwyn Kelson McElveen of Sumter. Bridesmaids were Danielle Brooke Basham of Fort Worth, Texas; Mary Elizabeth Bultman of Columbia; the groom’s sister, Amanda Price Denton of Mount Pleasant; Neelie Carol Rodgers and Kathleen Welch Shaw, both of Sumter; and Emily Roddey Sawyer of Georgetown. The bride’s niece, Adelaide Watson McElveen of Sumter, was flower girl.

Best man was the groom’s father. Groomsmen were the groom’s brother-in-law, Jonathan David Denton, and Brian Daniel Wilkinson, both of Mount Pleasant; Travis Wayne Dowdy of Bennettsville; Ralph Lee Herndon, William Holmes McLaurin, and Ronald William Rice Jr., all of Dillon; the bride’s brother, Joseph Thomas McElveen III of Sumter. Junior groomsmen were the groom’s nephews, Josiah David Denton and Baxter Kenneth Denton, both of Mount Pleasant.

Readers were Anna Daniel McLaurin of Dillon and Ann McDowell Calloway Prevost of Columbia. Greeters were the bride’s cousins Kathryn Lemmon Parker and Mary Grace Watson of Sumter.

After their honeymoon in Playa De Mujeres in Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside in Sumter.
