ASHEBORO — The Wheatmore High School girls and Asheboro High School boys captured Randolph County swimming championships in a meet held recently at the Randolph-Asheboro YMCA.
The WHS girls finished with 380 points, while Asheboro had 310, Providence Grove 213, Trinity 129, Eastern Randolph 114, Randleman 109 and Jordan-Matthews 92.
In the girls 200-meter medley relay, Wheatmore’s Katie Fritz, Kyndall Fritz, Emma Godwin and Erin Lambeth took first in 2:23.92. AHS’ Tatum Herrin, Destiny Curtis, Chau Ngyuen and Kaylee Greene were second in 2:50.13 and PG’s Caroline Remsburg, Peyton Grettler, Erin Steadman and Elizabeth Remsburg were third in 2:51.22.
In the 200-meter freestyle, WHS’ Katie Fritz was first (2:31.20), WHS’ Lambeth was second (2:57.23) and AHS’ Sadie Richau was third (3:07.80).
In the 200-meter individual medley, WHS’ Kyndall Fritz was first in 2:45.95, WHS’ Sarah Hall was second in 3:22.12 and WHS’ Elizabeth Beusse was third in 3:31.42.
In the 50-meter freestyle event, Wheatmore earned a sweep as Katie Fritz was first (29.09), Emma Godwin second (30.55) and Lambeth third (34.09).
WHS’ Katie Fritz won the 100-meter fly in 1:17.50, with AHS’ Curtis placing second in 2:00.73.
WHS’ Kyndall Fritz won the 100-meter freestyle race in 1:12.36. PG’s Steadman was second (1:16.42) and WHS’ Hall was third (1:20.01).
In the 400-meter freestyle event, WHS’ Godwin was first in 5:36.42, AHS’ Richau was second (6:59.79) and AHS’ Curtis was third (8:23.70).
In the 200-meter freestyle relay, WHS’ Kyndall Fritz, Katie Fritz, Lambeth and Godwin were first in 2:08.74. Placing second were WHS’ Hall, Abbey Parrish, Christian Faulkner and Beusse in 2:33.19. In third were AHS’ Herrin, Greene, Curtis and Richau in 2:40.55.
In the 100-meter backstroke, placing first was WHS’ Kyndall fritz in 1:20.42, second was PG’s Steadman in 1:24.23 and third was WHS’ Lambeth in 1:35.87.
WHS’ Godwin won the 100-meter breaststroke race in 1:28.70, while WHS’ Hall was second (1:34.20) and AHS’ Ngyuen was third (1:46.75).
In the 400-meter freestyle relay, WHS’ Katie Fritz, Kyndall Fritz, Lambeth and Godwin placed first (5:01.78), WHS’ Faulkner, Beusse, Kaleigh Craft and Hall were second (5:56.84) and PG’s Caroline Remsburg, Elizabeth Remsburg, Steadman and Morgan Wright were third (6:16.32).
n In the boys meet, AHS finished with 297 points. Wheatmore had 271, ER 228, RHS 225, PG 163, THS 50 and J-M 12.
In the 200-meter medley relay, RHS’ Blake Barker, Will Anderson, Liam Mowers and Kiernan Mowers placed first in 2:32.43. WHS’ Chase Witcher, Noah Smith, Tyler Moser and Ty Thrift were second (2:35.16) and AHS’ Worth Surratt, Caleb Green, Liam Richau and Freddy Kelly were third in 2:44.41.
In the 200-meter freestyle race, AHS’ Surratt was first (3:04.78), WHS’ Thrift was second (3:25.08) and WHS’ Moser was third (3:26.69).
In the 200-meter individual medley, WHS’ Smith was first in 2:57.98, ER’s Bradley Cox was second in 3:02.27 and THS’ Conner Anuszkiewicz was third in 3:05.24.
RHS’ Barker won the 50-meter freestyle race in 29.40, while RHS’ Anderson was second (30.77) and WHS’ Witcher third (32.09).
In the 100-meter freestyle, WHS’ Smith was first in 1:10.10, THS’ Anuszkiewicz was second in 1:14.81 and PG’s Logan Routh was third in 1:19.06.
In the 400-meter freestyle, ER’s Cox was first in 5:21.94, AHS’ Greene was second in 6:54.14 and AHS’ Surratt was third in 6:55.47.
PG’s Braxton Lineberry, Cameron Clark, Jacob Allen and Thomas Hayes won the 200-meter freestyle relay in 2:03.40. RHS’ Liam Mowers, Kiernan Mowers, Anderson and Barker were second (2:07.62) and PG’s Matthew Hutcherson, Routh, Dante Rivero and Nicholas Swaim were third in 2:16.81.
In the 100-meter backstroke race, ER’s Cox placed first in 1:09.47, THS’ Anuszkiewicz was second in 1:22.15 and AHS’ Green was third (1:33.39).
RHS’ Anderson won the 100-meter breastroke race in 1:28.22. WHS’ Smith was second in 1:29.29 and WHS’ Moser was third in 1:38.25.
In the 400-meter freestyle relay, RHS’ Liam Mowers, Kiernan Mowers, Anderson and Barker won in 4:52.54. Placing second were PG’s Rivero, Swaim, Routh and Ian Hyatt in 5:35.28. Placing third were WHS’ Thrift, Moser, Marshall Canham and Smith in 5:44.40.
Faith Christian splits with UG
LEXINGTON — The Faith Christian basketball teams traveled to Union Grove on Friday for a quadrupleheader with the Eagles winning two games.
UG won the varsity boys game 64-51.
Jared Reeder had 13 points for Faith (5-9), while Trevor Brunson had 10 and Ben Wensil nine.
The Eagles won the varsity girls game 42-33.
Ashley Avelino notched 14 points for Faith (11-3), while Kayla Langley had 11 and Abbey Stout eight.
UG won the jayvee boys game 54-31.
Luke Langley had 11 points for the Eagles (0-7), and Austin Freeman had 10.
Faith won the jayvee girls game 20-15.
Katie Gaines and Tanley Steele each had six points for the Eagles (4-3).
CCSC assessments Jan. 21, 24
ASHEBORO — Central Carolina Soccer Club will be holding free soccer assessments for spring teams on Sunday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Randolph-Asheboro YMCA from 3-4 p.m.
The assessments are for boys and girls ages 7-12.

ER first, RHS second at Eagle Duals
BISCOE — The Eastern Randolph High School varsity wrestling team won Saturday’s Eagle Duals at East Montgomery with wins over Albemarle, Chatham Central, West Montgomery, Richmond County and Randleman 42-34 in the finals.
Tristan Brower (138 pounds), Preston Gladden (145) and Allen Egan (285) all went undefeated for ER (13-5).
RHS finished 4-1 for second place.
The Tigers defeated North Moore 66-6, EM 48-22, RC 46-30, WM 48-30.
Going 5-0 and earning all-tournament honors for RHS (11-9) were Luis Garcia (113), Caedmon Trivette (126) and Josh Vela (152).
The two squads wrestle again on Friday at RHS in a Piedmont Athletic Conference rematch.
