CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) has the state government to complete its audit and release the pending Rs 205 crore of the post-matric scholarship scheme for scheduled caste (SC) students at the earliest.

After coming to power, the Congress government ordered the audit of 3,606 colleges and technical institutes on June 16 last year, claiming post-matric scholarship scheme for SC/OBC from 2011-12 to 2016-17.

Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, scheduled castes, backward classes and minority welfare minister, had earlier said the audit would be completed by December 31, 2017.

PUCA president Anshu Kataria said due to non-release of the scholarship amount over 1,000 unaided colleges and three lakh scheduled caste students were facing hardships. "Of the required Rs 1,200 crore, the Centre has only released Rs 115 crore," added the association president.
