The 14-year-old girl who had attempted to commit suicide by hanging after being raped by 3 youths, died this afternoon (Jan. 14) while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Hambantota Hospital.

She was a resident of Gonagamuwa, Tissamaharama.

It was found that the girl had been raped by the 3 youths on 9th of this month.

One of them was her boyfriend.

Thereafter, she had attempted to commit suicide by hanging.

But her brother had rescued her and then admitted to hospital.

The suspects were later apprehended by area residents and handed over to police.

The youths were remanded until 23rd of this month.
