Robbers dodge police

A gang committed a daring robbery at a house only 300 metres from Rajapur Police Station in the district on Friday night, dodging the law enforcers who remained busy mostly in rural areas, following information that robbers had entered the upazila with modern weapons.

“Police warned the people at different villages with the help of public representatives who used loudspeakers of mosques to inform the people. But the law enforcers did not warn the people of Rajapur town,” said Sabur Hossain,” a resident of the town.

“If we had been informed like the villagers, our valuables would have been saved,” said Md Moslem Ali Mridha, resident of the house on Gorosthan Road, from where the robbers looted 100 bhories of gold worth around Tk 50 lakh and Tk 6 lakh in cash.

“The robbers entered my house after cutting the door. I could not cry for help as the armed robbers tied us and threatened to kill my son,” he added.

“We were very alert and vigilant the whole night in all areas of the upazila, but unfortunately a robbery took place. Police have started investigation and are trying to find the robbers,” said Officer-in-Charge of Rajapur Police Station Md Shamsul Arefin.
