Baby Boot camp offering Saturday classes

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Sometimes the idea of the gym has some parents feeling lazy.

There's a new kind of workout in Charlottesville called Baby Boot Camp for parents and their children.

"This is the first time we've done a Saturday morning class," said Katie Dickinson, instructor. "It's also the first we've offered a family class, so we have mom's dads and kids all working out together."

Baby Boot Camp came to Charlottesville in 2007, but Saturday marked the start of its weekend class option.

The program aims to give new mothers a community.

"Moms have a baby and it can be a wonderful, happy blissful time, but sometimes they also need that support," said Kira Sullivan, founder.
"At Baby Boot Camp, not only is it a great way for mom's to make their health a priority again and feel like them again, but there's also this incredible support system."

Instructors also said the community of mothers does not feel alone.

"If you come with spit up on you or two different shoes on everyone is like I hear you and that is so heart-warming as a mom when you sometimes feel scattered and isolated," said Dickinson.

While Baby Boot Camp holds classes every weekday, the new Saturday option allows working parents a chance to join in.

"My husband is at work during the week, and you know I'm at home with our daughter," said Kristin Murphy, a participant. "Saturday mornings we can all come and work out together and get out of the house and do something as a family."

If you are interested in Baby Boot Camp, there are a few free classes being offered.
