Studs and duds
PHILADELPHIA — The world counted them out. No one thought the Eagles had it in them.
Home field advantage? Irrelevant. 13-win season? Pointless. Without Carson Wentz, Philadelphia had zero chance of knocking off the reigning NFC champion Falcons in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Right?
Wrong.
Behind a brilliant offensive game plan from Doug Pederson, a dominant defensive effort and a mistake-free outing from quarterback Nick Foles, the top-seeded Eagles pulled off a surprising 15-10 victory over Atlanta. A goal line stand in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.
The win advances the Eagles to the NFC Championship game. They'll play the winner of the Saints-Vikings game Sunday afternoon.
Here are a few studs and duds from the game.
STUD: Eagles offensive line
The kept Falcon defenders off the back of Foles, and opened plenty of running lanes for Jay Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement. The big men up front knew the pressure was on them with Carson Wentz out the year with a knee injury. They rose to the occasion.
STUD: Nick Foles, Eagles quarterback
It wasn't always pretty for Foles. At times, it was actually really ugly. But the Eagles backup quarterback got the job done, and made plays when he had to. His perfectly-timed pass to Alshon Jeffery set up a field goal to end the first half. In the second half, he led Philly on to game-clinching field goal drives.
Foles got assists from his running game and defense, which is fine. He didn't lose the Eagles the game. Which is exactly what this team needed.
