Netflix continues to cut down its original series repertoire, this time giving the axe to Lady Dynamite after two seasons.
Maria Bamford's comedy series drew inspiration from stories from her own life, though Bamford never wrote any of the episodes herself. While the show definitely had a cult following, its second season fell short of the standard set in Season 1, which probably made it easy pickings for Netflix.
In the past year, Netflix has canceled quite a few series from The Get Downto Sense8 to Chelsea. It's clear that the streaming site is narrowing the scope of its original series down by getting rid of dead weight and focusing on smash hits like Stranger Things and The Crown. However, it's worrying that Lady Dynamite is only one of a handful of female-driven series Netflix has chosen to cancel, joining Girlboss, Gypsy and Haters Back Off in the scrap pile.
