Dozens of people marched in downtown Bunnell on a chilly Saturday morning to celebrate the birth of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, whose birthday this year falls on the same day as the national holiday.
A noted orator and staunch advocate for equal rights through peaceful protest, King was born on Jan. 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was assassinated April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee when he was 39.
The parade began about 9 a.m. Saturday at the G.W. Carver Center, 206 E. Drain St., headed west on Martin Luther King Jr Ave. to State Street, north to East Moody Boulevard, east to South Bacher Street, west on MLK Avenue, and returned to the Carver Center for a day of activities.
A program at the center included music, a guest speaker, and a community gathering.
