Gregory S. 'Greg' Long, 66, of Hutchinson, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born October 18, 1951, in Halstead, to James Eugene and Lucille Evelyn (Krueger) Long.
Greg graduated from Haven High School in 1969, where he was a standout football and track athlete, and Fort Hays State in 1976. He owned Gregory S. Long, CPA, for over 30 years. Greg served on the Haven City Council for 14 years and helped coach his son and daughter's youth sports teams. He was a member of Haven Baptist Church from 1976-1998, where he served as the choir director, and was also a member of Westside Baptist Church.
In 1973, he married Kathryn Fowler. They divorced in 1997.
Greg is survived by: son, Dr. Derek Scott Long and wife Natalie of Maumelle, Arkansas; daughter, Leah Winkler and husband Mike of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Cayman Long, Collins Long, Carmen Long, Finley Winkler, Rowan Winkler; brother, Brad Long; former wife, Kathy Edwards of Hutchinson; and former in-laws, John C. and Edna Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucille Long and sister, Cara Lou Long.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Haven Baptist Church, 502 E. 4th, Haven, with Pastor Dean Flanner officiating. Inurnment will follow in Laurel Cemetery, rural Haven. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
