Local police and intelligence officials are vigilant on those who have threatened suicide or self- immolation on the ground of business loss, post- demonetisation and GST, by releasing videos on social networking sites if their demands are not met by the State Government, said police.
Six persons from various parts of the State reportedly threatened the Government in the past few days since the suicidal death of transporter Prakash Pandey. However, things have eased a little as one of them Deepak, resident of Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district, is said to have released another video, stating that he has withdrawn the threat given impulsively. Other transporters, however, said that Deepak might have buckled under pressure put by the State officials.
State additional director general of police (law and order) Ashok Kumar said on Friday that intelligence staffers have been put on alert and the district police chiefs have been directed to talk to such persons and take measures to redress their grievances in consultation with the district administration.
Another senior police officer said that around six persons from Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and some other districts had threatened suicide over different issues like land encroachment and financial loss in business. “We would not detain them unless they plan something drastic.
Local police and intelligence staff have been put on alert and directed to be vigilant on them. However, there is a provision of booking them under section 306 of IPC,” he said.
Notably, Dehradun police detained a transporter Sanjay Bisht, resident of Rampur in Nainital district, who had announced suicidal bid along with other transporters at the CM’s residence on Friday through a circulated video, from Hathibarkala in Dehradun on Thursday.
With the CM office being flooded with such threatening calls for the past few days since the death of the transporter from Nainital district, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had reportedly said that some political leaders were trying to milk the unfortunate death of a transporter politically.
