ASHEBORO — “Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” a six-week educational program designed to help caretakers take care of themselves while caring for a parent, spouse, friend or loved one, will begin Feb. 1.
The 90-minute classes are provided at no cost through Family Caregiver Support Program funds.
This educational program meets once a week and covers the following topics:
* Week 1: Taking care of you.
* Week 2: Identifying and reducing personal stress.
* Week 3: Communicating feelings, needs and concerns.
* Week 4: Communicating in challenging situations.
* Week 5: Learning from our emotions.
* Week 6: Mastering care-giving decisions.
Participants will receive a book, “The Caregiver Helpbook,” developed specifically for the class. A donation of $25 to help defray the cost of the book is suggested but not required to attend the class. Refreshments will be provided.
Classes will be held at the Randolph County Senior Adults Association’s Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Adult REC, 347 W. Salisbury St., Asheboro, every Thursday from Feb. 1-March 8 from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
