MACKINAW — Abby Scott scored all nine of her points in the final three minutes and 11 seconds to lead Tremont to a 45-35 girls basketball victory over Route 9 rival Deer Creek-Mackinaw.
Scott’s free throws with 3:11 left gave the Turks a 36-34 lead, starting an 11-1 push to close the game.
“They do good things and at the end of the game, said Tremont coach Justin Wahls of his freshmen. "They were the ones that scored those points."
The Turks (8-13, 6-3) led for the majority of the first half until Meredith Sidwell’s free throws gave the Chiefs a 22-21 lead with 2:32 left in the second quarter. Dee-Mack (3-13, 3-6) went into the half with a 24-21 lead.
After Tremont tied the game at 24 with 4:29 left in the third quarter, the two teams went back and forth until Scott helped the Turks pull away.
Tremont senior Vanessa Ehnle had a game-high 14 points. Turks senior forward Renee Hartman had 12 points and eight rebounds. Jessica Carithers had 13 points to pace the Chiefs.
