Albany

After plummeting temperatures Friday night turned the rain into sleet and ice coating roads and sidewalks, precipitation is beginning to slow in the Capital Region.

The National Weather Service in Albany isn't expecting any more rain Saturday but areas north and west of the Capital Region could see snow showers, said meteorologist John Quinlan.

The Capital Region got less than two inches of snow overnight Friday and roughly one-tenth of an inch of ice buildup. Between 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday temperatures dropped from above 60 degrees to about 20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Nine customers in Albany County and less than five in Schenectady County were experiencing power issues as of 11:14 a.m. Saturday, according to National Grid's outage map. Service was expected to be restored by 11:30 a.m. in Schenectady and by 1 p.m. in Albany.

A flood warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Saturday with possible flooding caused by ice jams, and a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Both the National Weather Service and  the state Department of Transportation warned drivers to use caution on the roads on Saturday.

The high on Saturday is 26 degrees but temperatures will dip down in the evening, with lows expected to be about zero degrees overnight.

"Tonight's going to be very cold," Quinlan said. "Not quite as cold as last weekend, but still very cold."

On Sunday the high is predicted to be around 17 degrees, with wind chill as low as negative 12 degrees and a low around negative three degrees at night.
