The Leavenworth Community Organization will present the program at 6 p.m. Monday at Sunflower Baptist Church, 1708 Fifth St. The event is open to the public.

Monday is the national holiday that honors the civil rights leader.

Tony Barton, a pastor and former member of the Kansas House of Representatives, will be the guest speaker at Monday's event at Sunflower Baptist Church.

To celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth will be having a week of service next week.

John Shultz, vice president for admissions and marketing, said the week-long event is being spearheaded through the USM's Lawrence D. Starr Center for Peace and Justice. Members of the Saint Mary community are being challenged to take part in service activities.
