MASON – The Ionia swim & dive team took a road trip to Mason, Thursday, Jan. 11 to take them on in the pool. Ionia fell 102-61 in the event, but showed improvement in their times, recording some personal bests on the night.
“This was a difficult meet, but possibly our best meet this season,” shared Ionia coach Laura Cairns. “Despite the loss, many swimmers set new personal records, or swam an event for the first time.”
Ionia's Dain Stark touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle. The 400-yard freestyle relay gave quite a bit of excitement to the Ionia crowd with the A relay team of Aydan Hurst, Dathan Hall, Alex Martin and Riccardo Foria claiming first, and the B team of Brody Richardson, Brandon Schmoekel, Joseph Paulin, and JJ Harris finishing second.
Other individual finishes for the night were: 200-Yard Freestyle: 4. Alex Martin, 5. Dathan Hall; 200 Individual Medley: 3. Dylan Sink, 5. Joel Cairns; 50-Yard Freestyle: 2. Riccardo Foria, 6. Malachi Davis; 100-Yard Freestyle: 2. Dain Stark, 5. Grant Wiles, 6. Sam Friedrich; 500-Yard Freestyle: 4. Aydan Hurst, 5. Dathan Hall; 100-Yard Backstroke: 2. Grant Wiles, 3. Malachi Davis, 4. Brody Richardson; 100-Yard Breaststroke: 2. Dylan Sink, 3. Joel Cairns, 4. Sam Friedrich.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Foria, Sink, Hurst and Stark claimed second, and the medley relay team of Wiles, Sink, Stark and Foria claimed third.
Ionia will host Williamston, Thursday, Jan. 18, with the meet starting at 6 p.m.
