The Welfare Foundation granted $60,000 to the Veterans Watchmaking Initiative, in Odessa, to provide more training space for disabled veterans training to become watchmakers.
The school has been in operation since September 2017.
The grant will convert the building's back three-bay garage area into a classroom, said Sam Cannan, chairman of the Veterans Watchmaking Initiative. VWI provides training, support and referral services to returning veterans, especially disabled veterans, in the art of watchmaking at no cost to them.
Christopher T. Grunder, the foundation's chief operating officer, presented the check to Cannan on Jan. 12 at the school.
