A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two groups of the persecuted Myanmar citizens at Kutupalong Rohingya Camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Momtaz Miah, 35, son of Abul Kashem.

Two groups of Rohingyas of Kutupalong Camp -- one led by Momtaz and the other headed by Arifullah Majhi -- had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy at the camp.

In consequence to the enmity, followers of the two groups, led by their respective leaders, locked in a clash with sharp weapons around 12 noon, said officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station M Abul Khayer, quoting witnesses.

At one stage of the clash, supporters of Arifullah hacked Momtaz to death while five others Rohingyas sustained injuries.

The injured were admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, said the OC adding that a Rohingya man was arrested in this connection.
