A water line has leaked at the new, nearly $1 million Burlington Bay Campground bathhouse complex in Two Harbors.
Sometime late last week, a thick layer of ice covered the sidewalk that wraps around and passes through the complex, between the bathhouse and the office. Ice also formed on windows, doors and exterior walls. A broken ceiling tile and rubble were visible through a window on the laundry room door.
City Administrator Dan Walker confirmed to the Lake County News-Chronicle that there had been a leak, but did not answer additional questions because of the city's ongoing investigation into the cause of the leak and the extent of the damage.
The Burlington Bay Campground bathhouse, which opened last year, was originally budgeted for $400,000. When the bids to build the bathhouse were submitted in March 2016, the lowest bid was $868,600.
Located next to the Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce building, the bathhouse serves the new RV campground.
In December, the Two Harbors City Council approved the 2018 budget, which includes $250,000 for another new bathhouse in the far north corner of the campground. The building is budgeted for the campground fund. The current bathhouse on that end of the campground sustained fire damage in October.
