A pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit by a car near the intersection of Merle Hay Road and Douglas Avenue Friday evening.
A car travelling southbound on Merle Hay Road struck a 44-year-old Des Moines man at 6:21 p.m. as he crossed the road near the 3600 block.
The man was taken to the hospital and was still in critical condition as of Saturday morning, said Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department.
The driver, 33, of Indianola, was not impaired and was not driving recklessly, Parizek said. A technical investigation is still underway.
