All people have value
I am a s---holer. Yes, like millions of Americans who immigrated to this United States at the end of the 19th century, my grandparents had no money. They had no education. As adolescents, they had developed few skills.
Two of my grandparents came to live in – trumpets blaring – Muncie. They established a successful business, paid their taxes, contributed to the less fortunate in the community, and, so important, they loved their grandkids as much as they loved America.
It stands to reason, for reasonable minds, that people who immigrate thousands of miles and across vast oceans to another country are seeking more than they have at home.
All current Norwegians, for example, enjoy a high-standard living, a good education, good health care, virtually no violence. That country ranks higher than America on most qualities of life, and, they live longer. Why then would Norwegians immigrate to anywhere else?
I must add that it does not take a genius to understand what makes this nation great is that, in contrast to other nations, we are created by and have successfully integrated people from the entire globe.
It is the idea and the hope this nation holds forth that makes us exceptional.
All people have value regardless of their economic status, their religious beliefs, their ethnicities, their skin color, their gender, from where they come; all have the opportunity here to become the best they are and to give the best they have in this exceptional nation, this America.

Questioning Hicks’ motives
Only Michael Hicks would think he’s smarter than the IU School of Philanthropy. He was also the one saying the economy was doing good, right before the Great Recession. I question his motives and methods.
