IONIA — Three Ionia High School students have been selected for the 2018 Michigan All-State Jazz Ensemble.

After the 2,000 audition recordings were listened to by judges, Jon Gerdes, Ben Toaz and Will Erskine are among the top jazz high school musicians in Michigan, said Scott Beyer, director of bands for Ionia High School.

“These Ionia High School students are part of only 20 students to be chosen for the All-State Jazz Ensemble,” he added.

Sophomore trombonist Toaz, senior trombonist Gerdes and senior trumpeter Erskine are part of the jazz ensemble at Ionia High School. 

They will perform at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Ambassador Ballroom in Devos Place.
