The German winger is thriving at the Etihad Stadium this season.
Despite battling for a starting role with some of Europe's top attackers, Sane has featured 27 times for City so far this term.
But his career could have taken a very different direction after leaving Bundesliga outfit Schalke if Jurgen Klopp had got his way.
“Yes, I was also talking with them [Liverpool],” Sane told the Guardian.
“Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me.
"That was before I joined City.

And Klopp's attempts to sign Sane were not a one-off.
The German boss also tried to sign his fellow countryman for Borussia Dortmund.

“Yes, there was a time when I was still in the academy that I could have gone there from Schalke but there was no thoughts at all to move to a rival,” Sane added.
“I have no regrets at all. I’m very happy here.
"I have a lot of friends here, Raheem Sterling, John Stones, Kyle Walker. I really like it – everyone is a really good person, we have fun, a laugh.”
Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield tomorrow afternoon (4pm).
