Man City star Leroy Sane reveals Jurgen Klopp tried to sign him for Liverpool AND Dortmund

MANCHESTER CITY star Leroy Sane could have joined tomorrow's opponents Liverpool.

The German winger is thriving at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Despite battling for a starting role with some of Europe's top attackers, Sane has featured 27 times for City so far this term.

But his career could have taken a very different direction after leaving Bundesliga outfit Schalke if Jurgen Klopp had got his way.

“Yes, I was also talking with them [Liverpool],” Sane told the Guardian.

“Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me.

"That was before I joined City.

“He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there”

"He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there.

"He’s a good guy, nice guy – honest.

"He [has] worked well with Liverpool.”

And Klopp's attempts to sign Sane were not a one-off.

The German boss also tried to sign his fellow countryman for Borussia Dortmund.

“Yes, there was a time when I was still in the academy that I could have gone there from Schalke but there was no thoughts at all to move to a rival,” Sane added.

“I have no regrets at all. I’m very happy here.

"I have a lot of friends here, Raheem Sterling, John Stones, Kyle Walker. I really like it – everyone is a really good person, we have fun, a laugh.”

Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield tomorrow afternoon (4pm).
