Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy).   The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Grenoble Outstation has an active research program in structural and molecular biology, making use of synchrotron radiation facilities (ESRF and EMBL@PETRA-III). In this context, the instrumentation team recruits a mechatronics engineer.

 In the frame of a collaborative project and under the responsibility of the team leader, the selected candidate will conduct the development of a scientific instrument for solution scattering experiments (SAXS). With the support of the team, the assigned tasks will range from the feasibility studies to the development, prototype building, fabrication follow-up and commissioning of the instruments at the Grenoble and Hamburg synchrotron beamlines. An active contribution to the management of the project will be expected.




Qualifications and Experience


The candidates should have a university degree in mechatronics or an equivalent dipploma. The ideal candidates will have a proven competence and experience in mechanics (CAD tools), electronics, industrial programming, and with minimal background in optics ant in physics. A creative mind and practical skills will be important to hold the position.
