Kerber wins 9th in a row to clinch Sydney title

Angelique Kerber won her ninth consecutive match to start the season, beating Ashleigh Barty 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the Sydney International title on Saturday.

Kerber, the 2016 Australian Open champion, won four consecutive singles matches at the Hopman Cup, followed by five in Sydney.

It was Kerber's 11th career title.
