One person suffered serious injuries after a car crashed and flipped in Lower Hutt this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said they were called at 2.30pm to the incident on Wise Street, Wainuiomata.

Initial reports were that one person sustained serious injuries. "It is not clear as yet whether there were any other vehicles involved."

The injured person was removed from the vehicle and flown to Wellington Hospital by rescue helicopter.
