A Connecticut man is accused of burglarizing a Town of Dover residence more than a year ago after evidence revealed a DNA match, according to state police.

Brent A. Latham, 36, of New Milford, was charged Thursday with second-degree burglary, a felony.

Troopers began investigating the burglary, which took place at a residence on Weil Road in the Town of Dover, in August of 2016. Two metal detectors, a chainsaw, and a Ruger .357 handgun were reported stolen.

During the course of the investigation, one of the leads police followed was the examination of a piece of torn latex glove recovered at the scene.

Lab analysis of the latex glove revealed a DNA match to Latham, who was incarcerated in Connecticut.

Court records there show multiple convictions for Latham, including burglary and stealing firearms. He was sentenced last June to a year in jail for third-degree burglary, according to the court records.

For the Dover charge, Latham was arrested in Connecticut as a fugitive of justice and was extradited to New York. He was arraigned in the Town of Dover Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail with no bail.
