The Duluth City Council will be asked next week to authorize the sale of up to $10 million in tax increment bonds for construction of the Harbor Square shopping center. The figure is substantially higher than an earlier $4 million estimate.
Deposits of zinc being found in northern Wisconsin could prove more important than copper, a geologist said yesterday in Duluth. Dr. Michael Mudrey said 25 percent of the nation's zinc output could be produced in Wisconsin by the year 2000.

Duluth city councilors yesterday delayed considering a motion to hire more police officers until the issue can be discussed further. Mayor Gary Doty wants to ask voters to approve future property tax hikes to pay for the additional officers.
State Sen. LeRoy Stumpf of Thief River Falls plans to introduce a bill giving the state Department of Natural Resources the authority to manage wolves. Stumpf is considering several methods of population management that would involve citizens being able to hunt and trap wolves.
