Northridge girls edge Brookwood

The Northridge High School girls basketball team outlasted Brookwood, 38-32, in a Class 6A, Area 7 contest on Friday.

In a back-and-forth affair, Josie Crump hit a 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining until halftime to give Northridge a 19-16 lead. She finished with five points. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Jaguars built a 10 point lead, 31-21.

Led by Morgan Houston with 13 points, eight Northridge players contributed in scoring. Lydia Paulette added seven points.

“They got baskets when we needed and got some open looks and good passes down the stretch and out of our offense,” Northridge coach Jason Bothwell said. “Game by game we are getting better, and that is all I ask of the kids is their best four quarters every game, and they played a complete four quarters tonight.”

Kiy Foster led Brookwood with 12 points. Preonna Hughes had seven points and Sydney Holder added six points.

“We just missed too many shots early,” Brookwood coach Johnney Ford said. “Shots weren’t falling and we put ourselves in a hole. We came back and fought back, but it’s something we can build on. This is a really young team. We don’t have any seniors, and we’ve got a lot to build on.”

Northridge hosts Hueytown on Monday and Brookwood hosts Hillcrest on Tuesday.
