Detroit — An Amber Alert has been canceled for a 2-week-old girl who police say was forcefully taken from her home in Detroit early Saturday.
Bella Osterman was taken at 1:35 a.m. from her home in the 3300 block of Garfield by her father Cordney Osterman, who police said is still at large.
Police found the baby at Osterman's mothers home unharmed.
"He(Osterman) was able to remove (a) tether and so we are still looking for this 23-year-old suspect and we are asking for the public's help," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig at a press briefing on Saturday.
Craig said a family member received a call to meet Osterman and the child was turned over and is now safe.
Police say Osterman, 23, arrived at the home and demanded entry into to see Bella around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Bella’s 26-year-old mother did not allow him to enter the home and he began to force his way in.
After he gained entry, Osterman took Bella and fled the home on foot.
He is described as wearing a blue-sweatshirt, black sweatpants and burgundy gym shoes.
Police said Osterman, who has a criminal history involving armed robbery and domestic violence incidents, removed the tether around 2:30 a.m. Police don't know if he was able to obtain a vehicle at some point and said he should be considered dangerous.
"When you think about the elements, it's single digit temperatures and it's a 2-week-old child wearing nothing but a T-shirt, certainly is concerning so the child will be examined," Craig said
Anyone has seen Bella or Osterman, or knows of their whereabouts should call Detroit Police Seventh's Precinct at (313) 596-5700, (313) 596-2250 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) Speak-Up.
Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
