State players bring more honors, wins 31 more medals

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh sportspersons continued their dominance in the ongoing 28th National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship even on the second last day of the event being organized at Lower Lake here. Making the state proud, the state players have performed excellently well in the Championship so far.
On the fifth day of the championship, the state players won as many as 31 medals that included 14 gold, 15 silver around 34 events held on the day.
Though the men players won 17 medals in all their events of 500 meters held in K1, K2, K4, C1 and C4 category, it was the women players who won all the praise as they outshined their male counterparts by winning around twice the gold medals in same number of events.
Women sportspersons bagged nine gold and five silver medals, while men players had to satisfy themselves with 5 gold and ten silver medals.
Five women players including Konjengbam, Sarju Devi, Meera Das, Phairambam Sonia Devi and Sushma Verma won the gold medals in individual events of 500 meters in different category. Two male players including SalamRadhakant Singh and Prohit Baroi won two silver medals in individual events.
Balbeer Singh, General Secretary of the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, officials of MP Kayaking and Canoeing Association distributed the medals to the players.
